Paper Summary

Obtaining high-quality seismic images from Distributed Acoustic Sensing Vertical Seismic Profile (DAS VSP) data is challenging due to its limited subsurface spatial sampling and suboptimal data quality. This paper introduces a tailored Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) Imaging workflow, commonly used in surface seismic applications, to tackle specific processing and imaging challenges of DAS VSP data. The proposed workflow offers a distinct advantage over conventional DAS VSP imaging workflows, resulting in an optimized image with a reduced turnaround time. Results from field data recorded in an active water injection well show a geologically consistent DAS VSP image obtained with minimum manual intervention. This demonstrates the efficacy of the new workflow.
