Paper Summary
This has been acknowledged by NOIA (America’s Offshore Energy Industry Association) for publishing our Environmental Sustainability efforts in their annual ‘The Offshore Energy Industry’s Innovation & Workforce Excellence Report.’
As a market leader in Ocean Bottom Nodes (OBN) and Geophysical Seismic Surveys, along with advanced data and intelligence for the Energy Industry, TGS is leading the way in its environmental sustainability efforts.
In 2024, as new European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) have come into effect, TGS has responded by:
- Defining its value chain for upstream and downstream suppliers
- Identifying stakeholders and communication channels
- Completing a double-materiality assessment against the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals
- Considering material impacts, risks, and opportunities
TGS' sustainable strategy for the environment focuses on:
- Diversifying offerings to support wind, solar, and carbon capture storage development
- Complying with environmental regulations and conducting Environmental Impact Assessments
- Lowering emissions from marine, onshore, and data center operations
- Continuing the multi-client business model to reduce duplicative seismic acquisition
- Recycling or repurposing lithium batteries used in Ocean Bottom Nodes
In 2024, the company has implemented several initiatives to increase fuel efficiency in its vessel fleet, including:
- Successfully testing 100% HVO (Hydrotreated vegetable oil) biofuel on one of its T-Class vessels
- Exploring adjustable deflectors on streamers and smaller rope diameters
- Improving rope fairing and hull cleaning
- Optimizing engine performance
- Upgrading to LED lighting
TGS has also demonstrated its commitment to biodiversity protection by removing 47.4 metric tons of discarded fishing gear and marine debris during operations. It has actively used the circular economy framework by repurposing, reusing or recycling office equipment during relocations.
As ESG requirements evolve, TGS remains committed to continual improvement, finding sustainable solutions and encouraging its workforce to innovate and suggest improvements in pursuit of these goals. TGS will continue to engage with the broader community to achieve sustainable future success.
