East Coast Canada
TGS has been acquiring 2D and 3D multi-client data offshore Canada since 2011. Our data library currently comprises over 86,000 sq. km of MC3D data, 180,000 km of MC2D data, and a comprehensive set of geological products.
A Frontier for World-Class Deepwater Exploration
East Coast Canada is one of the most promising deepwater exploration areas in the world. In addition to the producing basins, the region also holds potential for exciting new discoveries and world-class oil production in some highly prospective basins. Frontier acreage is adjacent to discoveries in Bay du Nord, Mizzen, Harpoon, and existing fields such as Hibernia, White Rose, Terra Nova and Hebron.
Access to new acreage, transparent fiscal terms, and a predictable land-sale policy make East Coast Canada an attractive region for oil and gas exploration.
The latest Call for Bids for Exploration Licences in the Eastern Newfoundland Region (Call for Bids No. NL24-CFB01) from the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) closed in November 2024.
Geology
Exploration targets from Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous fluvial to shallow marine sandstone reservoirs sourced by prolific oil-prone Late Jurassic marine shales. The margin provides large structural traps and thick regional seals.
Imaging
The deepwater Orphan Basin is a challenging environment for velocity model building (VMB). Using GeoStreamer data with long offsets combined with FWI solves this challenge.
