TGS is investing heavily in the Pelotas Basin to provide comprehensive coverage of this high-potential area. With advanced 2D data reprocessing and new acquisitions, TGS offers extensive regional insight, enabling a deep understanding of the basin's opportunities.
Renewed Exploration Interest
in the Pelotas Basin
The Pelotas Basin has gained renewed interest from explorers following
successful conjugate drilling campaigns and recent discoveries, including the 2022 Namibian "Venus" deepwater find. As exploration expands across a growing play portfolio, the Pelotas area is increasingly seen as having high potential in deep and ultra-deep waters. The 2023 4th-cycle Bid-Round of the Open Acreage awarded 44 blocks to two operators. TGS continues to provide the most comprehensive data coverage in the basin,
supporting resource evaluation efforts.
Data Availability
TGS offers a comprehensive data portfolio for the Pelotas Basin of Brazil, including high-quality 2D and 3D seismic data, well data, and marine gravity and magnetic data, covering key areas within the basin.
Our data provides a detailed sub-basin and regional framework, enhancing the understanding of the area's stratigraphic architecture and basement structure. It also offers valuable insights into the distribution of Cretaceous source rocks and reservoirs, supporting more informed exploration and development decisions.
Imaging
Superior processing workflow and depth-model technologies were utilized to produce the high-quality broadband Pelotas 2D library (~96,500 km) and the 2024 Santos Sul 3D seismic project (12,000 km2). TGS’ proprietary geophysical algorithms produce enhanced seismic imaging permitting explorers to accurately interpret and reduce risk in underexplored regions such as the Pelotas Basin.
Geology
The promise of increased prospectivity in the Pelotas Basin is further highlighted by the wide range of play types present in the region. Located south of the Santos oil province, limited Pelotas well data proves the presence of organic-rich, high-quality source rocks in the region. Reservoir targets include the Albian Carbonate Play with platform and atoll sub-plays. Additionally, fractured volcanic units on the Torres High, Cretaceous channel complexes and the Paleogene turbidites are viable play targets.
