HOUSTON, Texas (17 December 2024) – TGS, a global leader in energy data and intelligence, has launched a comprehensive CO₂ Storage Assessment package for the Appalachia Basin, covering 85 million acres across the Northeast. The study provides insights into geological structures, storage capacity and overall suitability of carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in the region.

Utilizing data from 3,400 wells and 29 stratigraphic surfaces, the assessment evaluates reservoir quality, sealing integrity and other geological factors critical to the success of CCS projects. Advanced methodologies such as stratigraphic framework, core-calibrated petrophysical evaluations and log curve interpretations were applied to generate these findings.

Carel Hooijkaas, Executive Vice President at TGS, said: “The completion of the Appalachia Basin CO₂ Storage Assessment demonstrates TGS’ dedication to providing accurate, data-driven solutions to support strategic decision-making. Our extensive well data library and subsurface expertise provide clarity on geological opportunities in the carbon capture industry.”

As the carbon capture and storage (CCS) industry evolves, this CO₂ Storage Assessment offers comprehensive insights that support carbon sequestration strategies and provide valuable information for decision-making in the global energy transition.
