New Energy geoscientists are Searching for Giant Saline Aquifers Suitable for CO2 Storage

The CCS segment continues to underdeliver the volume of storage required to meet net-zero targets, and we need large-scale storage sites to be identified and characterized to reach this goal. 

Most industry focus is currently on relatively small volume storage in closed structures. However, open aquifer storage sites offer the potential to store vast volumes of CO2, orders of magnitude greater than some of the current pioneer projects in Northwest Europe. Large regional seismic datasets are the perfect place to find these sites and identify and characterize them.

TGS geoscientists are searching for other plays with much bigger storage potential. Follow our journey in this series of articles as we bring together work from geoscientists, petrophysicists, and QI specialists in the search for these CO2 elephants.
