In the rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape, efficient management and real-time monitoring of assets are critical. Scatec ASA, a leading Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider, is at the forefront of this transformation with its innovative projects. One such project is the Mendubim solar park in Brazil, evidence of Scatec’s commitment to sustainable energy and technological advancement.

The Mendubim Solar Park: A Milestone in Renewable Energy

Initiated in July 2022, the Mendubim solar park, located in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, represents a significant leap forward in the country’s solar energy capacity. This 531 MW solar project, Scatec’s second venture in Brazil, is in collaboration with partners. As Scatec CEO, Terje Pilskog, stated, “Brazil’s solar energy market is expected to further accelerate and we are pleased to move conclude this exciting project.”

TGS Prediktor’s involvement in the Mendubim project began in January 2023. The Prediktor PowerView’s team played an important role during the pre-operations phase, including specification, configuration and commissioning actions.

Commercial operations were initiated on March 8, 2024, creating a new era of energy production from the Mendubim solar plant. By April 9, 2024, the plant was officially inaugurated, boasting an impressive installed capacity that solidified its position as a cornerstone of Brazil’s renewable energy infrastructure.

Leveraging Technology for Efficiency: Prediktor PowerView™

The success of the Mendubim solar park is also due to the integration of Prediktor PowerView™, an advanced asset performance management software. Prediktor PowerView™ plays a key role in managing the plant’s extensive data points – almost 2.5 million – ensuring efficient operations and decision-making.

  1. Real-Time Monitoring: Collect high-quality, granular data from millions of sensors, transforming it into actionable insights for plant operators to have reliable real-time status updates. This enables faster response to issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing profits.
  2. Data-Driven Decision Making: The ability to report to stakeholders automatically, detect anomalies and control operations from centralized location.
  3. Operational Efficiency: Facilitates the automation of operations, reducing manual intervention and errors, improving cost efficiency and extending the lifetime of equipment.

Pål Strøm, then the EVP of Operations & Maintenance at Scatec, highlighted the impact of Prediktor PowerView™, affirming, “Since 2020 we have reduced controllable losses on a portfolio basis by >2% translating into >100 MNOK in annual, recurring revenue increases for Scatec and our co-equity investors.”

Furthermore, Scatec’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology for its assets’ efficiency is echoed in his statement: “Prediktor PowerView has empowered us to make data-driven decisions with confidence. Its comprehensive centralized data analytics capabilities provide us with actionable insights that drive continuous improvement and optimization across our portfolio.”

Conclusion

The Mendubim complex is a great example of how advanced technology and strategic partnerships can drive the renewable energy sector forward. With the support of Prediktor PowerView™, Scatec ASA is not only optimizing its operations but also paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient energy future.
